Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I test less than an hour after I last urinated?
It’s best to wait at least 1 hour after you last urinated before collecting your sample. Testing too soon can reduce the accuracy of the result. If you’ve already done the test sooner than this, contact the service for advice — you may be asked to repeat it.
- Do I need to collect the first part of my urine or the whole stream?
You should collect the first part of your urine stream (often called “first-catch urine”), not a full sample. Only a small amount is needed — follow the instructions in the kit.
- I didn’t insert the swab as far as the instructions said — will it still work?
The swab needs to be inserted far enough to collect an adequate sample. If you think the sample wasn’t taken correctly, it’s best to request a replacement kit.
- The fluid has leaked or spilled out of the tube — can I still send it?
No. If the liquid in the tube has leaked, spilled, or looks very low, the lab may not be able to process the test. You should request a new kit.
- The tube wasn’t tightly closed and some fluid came out — what should I do?
Do not send the sample. Request a replacement kit to avoid an invalid result.
- Can I test during my period?
Yes, you can still test during your period. Follow the instructions carefully, especially if using a swab.
- I forgot to post the sample straight away — is it still OK?
Samples should be returned as soon as possible, ideally the same day. If there’s been a delay longer than 10 days, please contact us to check.
- What is the black line for on the vaginal swab?
The black line marks the point on the swab where you should snap it. After snapping, insert the swab end into the specimen tube. You may dispose of the discarded end in the bin.
